This elegant Art Deco ring is French, circa 1925. The 1920's was ablaze with modernity, and with the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925, a new era of design was officially born. It was markedly different from the sinuous curves and flowing lines of Art Nouveau and the "Old World" designs of the Victorian period. Deco was fresh and new, strikingly geometric, with sharp contrasting colors.
In this example the ring has a central focus, a cushion cut, midnight blue sapphire. Surrounding the stone are two geometric bands of diamonds. The faceted sapphire is approximately 2.65 carats. The cushion cut gained great popularity during this period of time and is the perfect foil for the geometric perimeter of diamonds. The diamonds in the first band surrounding the sapphire have a total of 22 European diamonds ranging from 2 1/2 to 8 points at each corner. The outer band of diamonds has 36 European cut diamonds of approximately 2 pts each. The diamonds are well cut and are F VSI1. The ring is ablaze with light as the diamonds contrast with the deep blue sapphire. The ring is set in platinum and the diamonds are all accented by beautiful mille grain work. The gallery has fine pierced work as expected of French jewelry, and the shoulders are subtle, with three diamonds on each side. The shank has fine ribbed decoration terminating with a smooth polished back bearing a makers mark and a French poincon for platinum.
The ring is in excellent condition and is a US 5 3/4. It can be sized. The central section measures 3/4 inches down x 5/8 inches across. This period has been greatly reproduced, but this is guaranteed original, of the period, and of course French. Lovely,timeless,classic... Circa 1925
