| Lovely 9 1/2" x 12" (sight) watercolor on paper depicting autumn path through the woods by listed Illinois/Indiana artist Robert Marshall Root (1863-1937). Root was originally from Shelbyville, IL, then re-located to Brown County, Indiana in the 1920s, where he became noted especially for his watercolor landscapes. This example from the 1920s, in a little lighter palette than his usual, incorporating blues and yellows into the woodland floor, with rust colored leaves. In excellent, all original condition, down to the hand-lined and painted mat. Signed lower right. Root's work is well-known in the midwest, and is just beginning to garner national attention in relation to the Brown County colony. If Root's work is of interest, this would be a great time to invest, esp. in such a signature piece as this. | ||
