| Great 14" x 10" marker on paper depicting stylized head, seeming to be Cleopatra, by listed Chicago folk artist Elmer Sanders (b. circa 1915), signed lower left. I know little of Sanders's life, but believe that he became a self-taught artist while serving a prison term in the 1950s at Cook County Jail, exhibiting in the Jailhouse Art shows. I believe that this piece dates from the 1960s, but am unsure of whether Sanders was still imprisoned at the time. A striking and colorful image; in excellent condition. | ||
