A fine, thinly potted porcelain wine cup pencilled in underglaze blue with a pair of 4-clawed scaly dragons chasing a flaming pearl amongst clouds. The base has a 6 character Yongzheng mark within a circle. The glaze has a distinct blue tinge and the unglazed foot shows a fine white body. Dating from the Yongzheng period (1723-35), it measures 2 5/8inches (6.8 cm) across. There is a piece broken and cleanly re-stuck. For a similar bowl with an apocryphal Chenghua mark, see Christies Sale No. 2463 Lot 1545. |
