NEW PRICE - Wow, how to describe this wonderful item! This is a stunning Taisho period Japanese combination vanity compact and cigarette case. A gilt ring and curb chain suspending a rectangular case, the outside worked in gilt with a finely depicted scene of a peacock beside a tree in blossom which extends to the reverse. The inside with cigarette compartment to one side and to the other two powder compartments worked in gilt with a bird above grasses and with a mirror compartment opening to an ivorine notelet inscribed with an address in Singapore. This beautiful item is signed on the back and there is a small powder puff still present which looks original to the piece. The case measures 7cm wide by 9cm long and is 1.2cm deep. All hinges and catches work very well and condition-wise there is just some expected minor wear to the corners, a little mild scuffing to the reverse and a small chip to the edge of the mirror.
