This is a very large and impressive antique Japanese ivory okimono depicting a fisherman with an eagle on his shoulder grasping a fish in its beak. The carving is excellent with very good detail, particularly his face and hands, both of which are very expressive. This okimono measures 39.5cm tall by 9cm wide across the base and weighs 1.197 kgs. Condition is very good with an age line in one of the eagles wings, another running down the back of one of the mans legs and another smaller one on the rock beneath his feet. The fish below his waist and on his leg are both pegged in place as is his right knee front. Signed to the base Syusai. Everything else is carved from one piece of ivory.
