This fine quality ivory okimono depicts a lovely maiden in flowing kimono holding a peony in one hand and what appears to be a pair of scissors or shears in the other hand. Mounted on a gilt highlighted ivory and hardwood base with the retailers name of Edward & Son, Glasgow to the underside. There is fine patterning to her robe and her hair, eyes and mouth are picked out in black and red. A quality okimono with no damage other than one gap to the ivory section of the base which appears intentional. The okimono measures 17cm tall excluding the base and 4.5cm wide. Including the stand this piece measures 19.7cm.
