|Bring grace and beauty into your world with this 19th Cenutry French Art Nouveau masterpiece, “Leune fille dans le jardin”, August Moreau (1837 – 1917), large patinated bronze, signed (see photo of signature). Dimensions: 29” high X 14” wide X 8” deep. Born in Dijon in the early 19th century, Auguste Moreau studied under Mathurin Moreau. Auguste, a leader in the Art Nouveau movement, worked as a sculptor and specialized in figures, statuettes and groups, in marble and bronze. He exhibited at the 1861 Salon in Paris and continued to play an active part in the Salon des Artistes Francais as a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais until 1910. Strong demand for Auguste Moreau works is supported by recorded public sales such as the sale price of $5,171 for the smaller (24”high) “Jeune fille et Oiseau” bronze sculpture lot # 266 at De Vuyst Auction House and Gallerie in Lokeren, Belgium on March 14th, 2009.
