| Bring Harmony into your life with this rare crafted 18th Century Chinese polychrome carved wood prayer sculpture of Lao Tzu the famous founder of Taoism. Tao (pronounced Dao) "the Way" can be described as the force that flows through everything. Taoism includes strong themes of harmony with nature. Note the cut out square compartment in the back to place the written prayers. It shows considerable signs of genuine use on an altar for many years, including burns to the bottom of the figure from the altar flames and incense burnings and there is quite a bit of worm damage to the bottom of the figure. The wood seems stable though and not in danger of getting worse. - see photos. Circa 1750. h. 12 1/2" w. 7" d. 4". | |||||||||
