|A striking and elegant fine example of the melding of Romantic Period Art and genius engineering, this antique French ormolu figural clock features a two train, eight day time and strike silk suspension movement signed hallmarked "Burton Paris" and beautiful sounding fine French silver bell which strikes on the hour and half-hour. It Runs great, keeps perfect time. The movement has just been cleaned by a Master clockmaker. The period of French Romanticism (circa 1790 – 1850) runs throughout the First Empire to beyond Charles X. While the Romantic style of the clock case dates its creation from late 18th to early 19th Century its fine silk suspension movement suggests late 1790s. This is further supported by the original 18th Century brushed silver alloy face with Roman numeral chapters and minute markers surrounding the face which display classically beautiful delicate ornate original and finely crafted French hour and minute hands. Its expertly crafted example of the French Romantic Period themes of bold individual heroism can be appreciated in its ormolu clock case with artistic chasing of the detailed noble French soldier and intricate base (see photos). Circa late 1790s – early 1800s.
