| Rare last work, unusually large (over 40 inches X 30 inches), “Wranglers” Oil on canvas, signed lower right, Lloyd Harting. Recognized as Harting’s last work (some consider this work partially unfinished). Condition: Excellent. Lloyd Harting was born in Little Falls, Minnesota. He attended the College of Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and then studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts. He continued his artistic training at the Chicago Art Institute in Illinois and at the Grand Central Art School in New York City. Harting famous for his Western paintings, was a member of the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, California. He worked as an illustrator for Brown and Bigelow, the calendar company, like world famous Western painter Charles M. Russell who’s works sell in the millions of dollars. Harting also worked for both 20th Century Fox and was an Art Director for Walt Disney Studios and was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force for numerous works in the Far East. His works are displayed at the Air Force Collection in Washington D.C. Strong demand for Harting’s works is demonstrated by the wholesale dealer auction price of $12,870 for “Indians Attaching Stagecoach” (size 21” 29”) Lot 243 at Santa Fe Art Auction on November 10, 2001. The subject piece is approximately twice the size of this recorded comp. On a $/square inch comparable basis ($20.62/square inch) the subject piece comparable price would be $24,744. Circa 1970s.
