| “Jungfrau Mountain Stream” Oil on artist’s board, attributed to Albert Bierstadt. Fully vetted provenance traced back to the artist himself available. Condition: Excellent. Bierstadt born in Dusseldorf, Germany, immigrated to the U.S., studied under Aschenbach and Lessing in the Dusselforf school, maintained a unique style, technique, manner and attention to detail. He traveled and painted in situ through Germany, Switzerland, and Italy as well as the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the American West. Bierstadt made a habit of making numerous studies on site and later executing enormous, highly romanticized landscapes. His works are displayed in major museums in North America and Europe including the Smithsonian, Washington DC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Wadworth Atheneum and the National Gallery of Canada. While his large famous works have brought many millions of dollars, even his small studies have demonstrated a strong demand as evidenced by the sale price $68,500 for “Study for Gosnold at Cuttyhunk” Lot 4 (6.2” X 9.5”) at Phillips de Pury, New York on May 21, 2002 and the $56,760 sale price for “Sunset” Lot 169 (unsigned) (8.7” X 5.5”) at Sotheby’s New York on May 22nd, 2002. Dimensions: 12.5” X 10.5” with frame, 7.1” X 5.2” without. Don’t miss this opportunity to own an exemplary work by one of the finest Masters at a great value.
