Own a piece of real life Kipling lore with this rare beautifully and artistically crafted 18th Century Mughal Northern India brass (over copper) lion ewer tea pot that displays the famous quality hand chased rosette - coriander flower pattern and domed hinged cover with lotus bud finial. Accented by a rare superlative iconic stylized lion head spout continuing to a graceful lotus bud handle end, this piece demonstrates the world renowned Mughal metalsmith elegance of the time. Both sides display central tear-drop cartouches which are also chased with delicate beautiful floral motifs. Comparable pieces are displayed at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and at the Asia Society Museum in New York. A comparable sale price of $22,735 for lot # 60 a extremely similar 18th Century Northern India ewer (chased with similar pattern style size and shape) sold in the recorded public sale at Christie's London on September 27, 2001. Circa 1750s. Dimensions: 11.5" high X 11" front to back X 5" wide.
