Frank Shapleigh, born in Boston and studied at the Lowell Institute of Drawing. After serving in the Union Army during the Civil War, he continued his studies in Paris under Ernile Lambinet. Best know for his evocative landscapes of the White Mountains area in New Hampshire, Shapleigh also painted in Florida, California and Europe. His work is represented in Farnsworth Art Museum, ME; New Britain Museum of Art, CT; Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College; Portland Museum of Art, ME; among other museums.
