|“Bohemian Still Life” Oil on canvas, signed “Mucha” bas gouche. Dimensions: 26.5” X 21.5”. Circa 1890s. Alphonse Maria Mucha born in Moravia (Czech Republic) studied at Academie Julian in Paris and shared a studio with Paul Gaughin. Famous for his leadership in Art Nouveau and portraits of Sarah Bernhardt, Mucha traveled throughout Europe and America and taught in New York. His art is displayed in the Bibliotheque Forney, Paris and the castle at Morovsky Krumlov. Strong demand for his works has commanded prices as high as $1,472,000 for “Reduced version of The Abolition of Serfdom in Russia” sold at Christie’s New York of April 24th, 2006. Pieces similar to this piece in terms of quality, artisanship, style, date created, subject and medium include the size adjusted ($/sq. inch) comparable sale of $152,000 for “A Path through a Forest” lot # s.d. sold on March 15th, 2008 at Dorotheum Prague.
