Large black glazed lekanis with applied decoration in white and umber. The lid has a large knob handle and is decorated on each side with the head of a lady of fashion. Between the two heads are large palmettes. The base is plain black glazed save for an umber band just above the foot. Dates from Apulian Greece, ca. 275-250 BC. Piece shows beautifully with the type of "silvering" that you love to see in these Greek Apulian pieces. Lid is intact, save for two small chips at the bottom edge of the lid. The base has some repair, nicely done. Diameter across the handles is 22.8 cms, or 9.1 inches. Ex. Welsh private collection. (Ferris Collection)

Ancient wine drinking cup, known as a Kylix, manufactured in the Greek colony of Campania in the middle of the 4th century B.C. Beautifully constructed shallow drinking bowl with two delicate handles to the sides, small two ringed foot beneath, stamped in the center with maker's mark of a four-pointed star, each point decorated with an acanthus leaf. Kylix measures 8 3/8" wide across the handles and 1-7/8" high. Choice condition with a beautiful silvery iridescence in the black finish. There is a repair to one of the handles, otherwise the piece is intact. The piece comes with a wonderful radiograph showing the absence of any breaks save for the handle repair which is shown. Ex. German collection by way of Artemis Gallery. A wonderful example.

Ca.300 B.C.- A beautiful and delicate lidded vessel known as a lekanis, from the Greek colony of Apulia in southern Italy. Decorated front and back with portraits of the "Lady of Fashion" with palmettes separating. A knobbed lid with starburst pattern, base in blackware. 4"H x 3 1/2"D. In excellent condition with one clean repair on the lid and some chipping at the rim edge.

A large bail amphora from the Greek colony of Campania, dating between 325-300 B.C. Decorated in red figure, showing a seated female on primary side and a standing youth on reverse. The female holds a fan in her right hand, left hand resting upon seat. The male faces left, wearing a full length himation. Details on each are shown in white pigment. Twin palmettes are located on the neck of the vessel, with a twisted bail across the opening at top. 13 1/2" in height. Shows beautifully, appears intact save for restoration to bail and small area on foot. Ex-Private Luxembourg Collection.
