Ca. 200-400 A.D., Teotihuacan, Mexico Valley. From the collection of Otto Von Winning,1914-2001. Von Winning was a distinguished scholar of Pre-Columbian civilizations notably West Mexican cultures. Probably best known for his corpus entitled Pre-Columbian Art of Mexico and Central America. He referred to these items in his journal as "objects held in the hand", more precisely held by the shaman during rituals. This piece is ceramic and displays a row of blood drops above a symbolic eye. It is 2 1/4" high by 1 3/8" wide with a chip at the very top of the piece, else intact.

Ca. 900-600 B.C., Middle Pre-Classsic Era, Vera Cruz Mexico. Beautiful mottled greenstone burial figure, otherwise referred to as an "axe man". With flared nostrils, down-turned mouth and menacing eyes, arms folded across the chest with fingers meeting at the midline. 3" tall and intact with minor chipping to the front of the left ear as seen in photos. There are faint signs of some toolwork which may indicate enhancement of the piece in modern times and the piece is priced accordingly.

Ca. 900-300 B.C., Pre-Classic Period, Guerrero Mexico. An anthromorphic grey stone figure of a man. 3 7/8 " tall with excellent deposits. These are burial objects thought to carry power into the afterlife. For similar example, see Gay, "Mezca Sculpture" 1967, page 25.
