| This is as fine an example of cuneiform tablet script as you are likely to find on the market. The piece has provenance through "Charle Ede Limited", a renowned London antiquities dealer and author. His stock sheet on company letterhead is included with the item and reads as follows: "Stock No. 1086- Sumerian messenger tablet with 19 lines written by an accomplished scribe, authorizing the rations to be issued to official messengers, victuals preceding name of recipient." The translation goes on to reference the names of all three, being Lu-Baba, Ili-den, and Abuni, along with the precise listing of rations to be provided for each along the journey. Also notable is that the tablet dates itself as follows: "From Umma, 14th day of the 11th month of the year in which 'the boat of Enki was caulked', (ca. 2036 B.C.). A copy of the stock sheet is shown in the picture attachments. Truly a remarkable example, it comes protected in a custom case fitted for the tablet. 32x26 mm in size, being intact with no repairs. | ||
