| Ancient wine drinking cup, known as a Kylix, manufactured in the Greek colony of Campania in the middle of the 4th century B.C. Beautifully constructed shallow drinking bowl with two delicate handles to the sides, small two ringed foot beneath, stamped in the center with maker's mark of a four-pointed star, each point decorated with an acanthus leaf. Kylix measures 8 3/8" wide across the handles and 1-7/8" high. Choice condition with a beautiful silvery iridescence in the black finish. There is a repair to one of the handles, otherwise the piece is intact. The piece comes with a wonderful radiograph showing the absence of any breaks save for the handle repair which is shown. Ex. German collection by way of Artemis Gallery. A wonderful example. | ||
