Vintage Japanese Painting Moonlight by Ryushi

In the moonlit beach three boats are simply just left. With the increasing dark after the sunset the colors of an exotic oriental night grew more vivid in the light of the moon. The painting is titled “moonlight” which is inscribed on the paulownia wood storage box. The painting is executed with different textured brush strokes on silk. Signed Ryushi and sealed. Kawabata Ryushi (1885-1966) was one of the prominent Japanese painters. Together with Yokoyama Taikan and Kawai Gyokudō, he was regarded as one of the "Three Big Figures" in the field of Nihonga painting (Japanese painting). In 1959, he was awarded the Order of Culture by the Japanese government. After his death, his house in Tokyo was donated to the city as Kawabata Ryushi Memorial Museum in 1990.

The piece is accompanied by a double paulownia wood storage boxes, on which inner box is the original inscribed with the artist signature and sealed. The painting wears one of the finest quality fabrics called takeyamachi, suggesting it has been highly appreciated. Ivory scroll end. (The scroll end can be replaced upon request. Please inquire for this.)The piece is in fine condition with insignificant light foxing and marks present on the painting.
