This painting is one of the good examples of the artworks that reflect the era of the Meiji - Taisho – early Showa where Japanese artists were trying to create the new aesthetic sense of Japanese art with western painting techniques and perspectives. Maeda Tekison (1895-1947) was born in Meiji period in Japan. He studied painting under Nishimura Goun and joined a painting school called Shincho sha.
