A group of sparrows enjoy the sunshade of windmill palm. Painted with ink and light pigments on silk. Signed Izan and sealed. Shimomura Izan (1865-1949) was a Japanese painter and poet during Meiji and Taisho period. He was from Ehime prefecture in Shikoku in Japan. He studied western painting under Honda Kinkichiro and Koyama Shotaro, as well as learnt and studied Haiku Japanese poem after he met a Prominent haiku Artist Masaoka Shiki became well known for Haiga painter (Simple paintings which accompany and interact with the 17-syllable poetic verse called haiku).
The piece is in fine condition with only insignificant light marks present. The mounting is also in good condition with some light damages. Painting: 15”x 46 3/8” (38.0cm x 117.5cm)
