Otafuku is a plump moon faced woman who has become familiar down through the centuries to Japanese from all classes of society. She is homely with a round high cheeks and a short flat nose, but charmed with good humor, amiability and laughter. The word otafuku literary means many fortunes. Here depicted is a hundreds of otafuku beauties enjoying their lives, such as holding a banquet, preparing a dinner with delicious foods gathered from the mountains and the sea. Some otafuku are also cleaning up, admiring flower arrangement, loving cats as well as enjoying a bath.

Some insignificant light marks are present on the painting and mounting itself, otherwise it is in very good condition with patina. The piece is accompanied by a paulownia wood storage box. Please inquire if you wish to frame this painting.
