This pot is of the Republican Period (1911-1949). The carving of the calligraphy is deep and clean. It has no cracks, there are no leaks. It is in very good condition. There is a tiny chip on the inside rim. It is very hard to see with the naked eye also hard to photograph One can feel it but one can hardly see it. The feet seem a bit worn, suggestive that this pot may have been actually used.

The most dramatic Maki prints were his Big Reds. This is one very fine example The Dance theme occupies the center of the print, a dancer – maybe two? – is shown swaying to some Latin beat. A black sun bathes the central figures. A blue splash gives further color to this print. The splash is balanced off by Maki’s seal at the right. Maki did about 10 Big Reds in the period 1968 to 1974.
The print size 18.5" x 12.5" Condition is excellent; 113/155

This is an Yixing modest sized teapot with a robin's egg blue glaze throughout. I have seen this glaze on Yixing teapots but twice in my life: I was at an auction in Beijing a number of years ago, thought no one would recognize the value of this "humble" Yixing pot. and I could buy it reasonably: everyone knew it and I was swamped. It is also shown in the great K S. Lo's great book. The Stonewares of Yixing, Pp. 62- 63.
