lacquer This ruyi was created in the middle of the Qing dynasty in the Qianlong period. Qianlong reigned from 1736 to 1796. Qianlong may be said to have been the last great imperial monarch. After he died the Qing dynasty wen into decline by 1910 it was done. Qianlong abdicated from his post to avoid reigning longer than his grandfather the Kamgxi Emptor (161 – 1722). The lacquer is very thick and beautiful and comfortable to hold. It was applied layer by layer patiently and carefully probably in the imperial workshop in Beijing. The lacquer ouch was the finest available came from the lacquer-producing province of Fijian. Nothing would have been too good for the cultured sophisticated and wealthy emperor –- who would have bestowed this ruyi to one of his ministers. length is over 40 cm
