Guest Book

This very good reticulated rectangular old rosewood box is over 200 years old. The carving is excellent, all sides, top and each end. Lotus buds and vines are on each side and at the ends. This is very old rosewood. The cover slides nicely in and out of the grooves, inside there is a little metal base. We believe this box was used to hold incense sticks -- the reticulated structure enabled air to circulate around them; one wag has suggested maybe even a medium sized brush. Indeed could have held a very elaborate fan! A similar box appears at p. 101 in Wood For the Scholar's Table, usage not specified! L is 20.5 cm, width is 4.5 cm and height is 4 cm., dimensions are about the same as in the book. (One Beijing friend has said this is called a xiang nang he, an incense box.)
