China Antique Brushwasher Soapstone 19th C Elegant

This is a large lotus leave, formed to make an elegant soapstone brushwasher. The large leaf begins on the bottom, it curls gently but firmly inward. On one part of the inside we can see that one lotus flower is about to open (on the leaf near it there is a small piece missing from long ago) and one bud is still closed. On another part there are 3 little pods visible with seeds -- they do not move. A small piece of the leaf near these pods is also missing. This design is very similar to a substantial burl palette we sold in the summer of 2007. This is a 19th Century piece. It is 20.5 cm long and 15.5 cm wide.
