| This is very attractive North China Deer. It was carved by an unknown carver in Hebei (Beijing is surrounded by Hebei) and brought to market here. The wood is called wu-mu in Chinese, this is ebony in English. Ebony is used rather sparingly in China for smaller objects (we have seen it in rulers). This statue is rarely seen in Chinese wooden art. | |||||||
