| ARTIST: Jens Quistgaard for Dansk; TITLE OF WORK: Ice Bucket; AGE: c. 1962; DIMENSIONS: 12"h x 7.5"d; MEDIUM / MATERIALS: Rare and expensive African Wenge wood; black plastic insert MARKS: "WENGE DANSK DESIGNS DENMARK JHQ" branded on bottom; CONDITION: Excellent - some natural vintage wear and aging; interior is clean and ready for use; COMMENTS: Designed by the brilliant Jens Quistgaard, who died at the age of 89 on January 4th,2008, as part of the "Rare Woods" series for Dansk, marking Dansk's entry into the "luxury" domestic goods market in 1962. This object is considered by contemporary collectors to be among the finest created during the international, Post-War 'Scandinavian Modern' movement. Due to the expensive wood and intricate construction, the "Rare Woods" buckets were created in very-limited quantities. They were also among Dansk's most expensive and prestigious offerings. This is one of the largest and most dramatic of the 'Rare Woods' forms and appears on the market very infrequently. | ||
