an impressive Dan Guere, mask,yale archive reference n°0010181-01, with light pronounced forehead and vertical forehead crease, concave face with pierced slit eyes, pierced eyebrows, mouth under accented with aluminum accented lips and teeth. With rectangular pierced holes and the plant fiber beard partly with wood dowels attached. Black patinated. This mask was exhibited in 16-09 to 15-11-1956 in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp in the exhibition: ' The Mask ', page 26, item number 97 in the written text (without picture), written with provenance or Madam a. Vaughan, Antwerp. Further provenance Lucien van de Velde and Leendert van Lier. Leendert van Lier stated that this mask was collected by Olbrechts . during his Ivorycoast expedition 1938-1939. Olbrechts . wrote the foreword for this exhibition in 1956 and it is very possible this unwriten history of O. is correct.  h. 22.7 cm.
