| Rare Document case made of bamboo with bronze hinges, top and bottom. Created with hexagonal twill plaiting technique. Inside has black lining of mulberry fibre prepared with the juice of persimmon and waterproofed with hard-drying oil, much like the material use for kimono stencils. Most likely a creation of a master artist in bamboo. Care and delicate handling brought out the incredible rich patina. Definitely owned by an affluent merchant or a very important person. Perfect condition. Japanese, Meiji period. 19" tall x 16" wide x 3" deep. | |||||||
