| Small wooden table with slats on top to form a grid. Double cylindrical legs at each of the four corners resting on a base of a framed square of wood. Kotatsu were an integral part of a Japanese home. A ceramic container with coals was placed underneath and a quilt or coverlet placed over it and one can warm his or her feet this way. The use of these stands for that purpose evaporated with progress but has found a new function in modern homes as small decorative tables, footrests or stools. In good condition. Taisho period, c. 1930. Made of cypress wood and measures 13" high x 12 1/2" wide x 12 1/2" deep. | |||||
