A pair of Chinese mother of pearl shells carved in detail and with typical Cantonese scenes of every day life: figures in landscape, buildings, trees, river etc. The quality of the shells is very good, image 1 shows a dark rim on one of the shells, in fact, this is due to the lighting condition of the image. A Chinese black lacquer and gilt fan decorated with a central cartouche depicting figures at leisure in boat, buildings and pavilions. The upper section is decorated using thick gilt in relief with a variety of foliage including finger citron ; the two outer guards have red added to the gilt. The reverse is similarly embellished. A Chinese ivory box carved in the pierced- through style of carving which is rarely used because of the difficulty of producing it. The cover has a central panel of very finely executed scene of figures, boats, pagoda, trees and buildings against a natural background. A Chinese jade brush wash of celadon and russet hues with lavender striations. The russet has been cleverly exploited to form a rim of beautifully rendered flowers, leaves and butterflies whilst the shallow bowl is carved as a peach. A large Chinese silver bowl repousse decorated with 12 panels and six different scenes: an owl in a tree; ducks in lotus pond; flowering peony; song bird in pines; insects in bamboo; and flowering chrysanthemums. It is raised on a similarly decorated foot but with yet another group of decorative motifs.
