Chinese carved mother of pearl shells
A Chinese pair of mother of pearl shells exquisitely carved; one with a scene of men playing a table game and attendants carrying utensils whilst in the background horsemen are fighting a battle- the whole is bordered by a profusion of shrubs and flora. The second shell depicts a battle scene, figures at leisure in pavilions and again a surround of trees. A discerning buyer would appreciate these fine and lustrous shells with faces which are engraved and not blank"ghosts". They rest on wooden original stands. Shell size: 18.2 cm x 16 cm. condition: very good indeed, no problems, the stands with age related wear. age: C. 1870
