A Chinese vessel jue in the Mughal style, carved with a very thin body. Standing on a short foot, the exterior is finely rendered with ruyi heads and greek key borders. The stone is of light celadon hue, translucent and so thin that you can see light reflected from one wall to another in some of our pictures. It measures 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm) long and is in excellent condition. This superb example of early 19 C. virtuosity of jade carving comes with a strong Provenance. Like our previous jade magnolia, this jue is from the collection of Louis the Second, the Prince and Duc of BLACAS ( 1815-1876), by direct descent to the owner before us. The Blacas were French aristocrats and Lords of the town of AUPS in Province and owners of several famous castles there. Louis the Second was a famous antiquarian, collector and Minister of the Crown.
