| A Chinese mother of pearl veneered box, the hinged cover with a central panel of applied raised decoration of engraved flora and foliage. A gabled surround separates it from a border containing shaped cartouches terminating in a rope-pattern edge.The sides of the box have similar design. The interior and base are lined with fabric. This is an elegant example of Canton craftsmanship and a desirable object.size: 8 inches (20cm) x 6 1/2 inches (16.5cm) x 2 inches (5cm) high. age: C. 1870. condition: good, a very small piece of veneer missing from the top left cartouche of the cover, as seen in the picture.general wear to the fabric. | |||||||||||
