A Timorese Door from the area which is now East Timor or Timor-Leste. This panel is mounted on a custom iron stand. A powerful example of the old tribal arts of the Indonesian Archipelago and a great piece of ethnographic art. Features Kakoak birds which figure prominently in Timorese mythology and symbolism. The Kakoak is taken as a symbol of courage and bravery. Carvings of the designs are outstanding. Door shows great patina,is fashioned from heavy, tightly grained jackwood.
