Northwood "Chrysanthemum Sprig" Butter Dish
This is a beautiful Northwood "Chrysanthemum Sprig" turquoise blue covered dish with blue staining and gilt decoration. Height - 6 inches. Overall excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Some gilt loss commensurate with age. Northwood Company of Indiana, PA. was the first to produce Custard glass for complete table settings. Some of these settings include the patterns of Inverted Fan & Feather, Chrysanthemum Sprig, Intaglio and Louis XV. All were produced prior to 1900. Many of their patterns had detailed hand painting and gilding. This fine example of their blue "custard" glass is one of the most expensive and sought after varieties of pattern glass today.
