Lei Feng’s stories first appeared in China Youth periodicals, in the 1960’s, Mao’s own Calligraphy that stated “Learn from Comrade Lei Feng” accompanying LeiFeng’s life time story set Lei Feng up to become the new models for all Chinese people. The slogan of “Learn from Comrade Lei Feng” appeared in other papers and magazines, major editorial on how to be a good warrior for Chairman Mao by studying Lei Feng were published. Lei Feng turned out to be the first of a series of heroic figures, most of whom had perished in the service of their fellow citizens. Their dairies, mostly banal and naïve, expressed a new communist morality. The essence of the Lei Feng campaign was to encourage total loyralty, devotee and obedience to Mao and the party at a time of crisis. This statue depicts Lei Feng in his winter PLA uniform, as evidenced by the PLA winter hat, and holding a gun. On the bottom of the base, it states the famous slogan first calligraphed by Mao Ze Dong, “Learn from Comrade Lei Feng”.
