This poster was often seen in the late 70s and early 80s in rural sides of China during each Chinese New Year. Many motifs were employed in this rather complex and vibrant painting. Ruyi, Peach, Fish and the fruit of “Buddha’s Hand”, are all symbols of Longevity. The chubby kid holding a peach while wearing a necklace that said “Live to be one hundred years” symbolizes longevity and was a quite popular image back then. Now with the obesity problem among Chinese children, this image has lost its popularity.
