Chinese New Year Propaganda Poster

This poster was often seen in the late 70s and early 80s in rural parts of China during each Chinese New Year. Many motifs were employed in this rather complex and vibrant painting. The chubby kid is seen holding a rooster, a motif used in Chinese paintings to “Bring wealth” to the household. A quite popular image back in the 70th and 80th, it has lost some of its charm in today’s age, some say it has to do with the obesity problem among Chinese children experience today and the changing taste in aesthetics. Size: 30" by 21".
