This propaganda poster features Mao and Lin Biao together in a meeting. Titled “Long, Long Live Great Leader Chairman Mao”, this poster was a picture taken during the 9th Chinese Communist Party Central Government Committee Member’s first meeting. In small character, it indicated that the two people on the poster are “Great Leader Chairman Mao and his close comrade Lin Biao”. This poster was definitely created to set up Lin Biao as Mao’s successor, as Mao had initially planned it. In this poster, it also displays Mao’s theory as well as Lin Biao’s words, together it creates the message that Lin Biao’s political career is on the rise and Mao had picked him as the successor. What really did happen was another story all together. When Lin Biao was declared a traitor and died from plane crash while he and his family were escaping to Russia, all materials containing Mao and Lin Biao together were ordered to be turned into the government, though some lucky survivors such as this poster were left untouched by the government, making it a rare collectible. With Lin Biao’s political life being reexamined by historians in China and abroad, he has come to be recognized as one who’s right and wrong are yet to be determined in the years to come, as China moves into more of a democratic society where freedom of speech are being explored. Size: 20.5” L by 20” W.
