Titled “Great Country Wide Land, We can do what we want”, this poster features students who were sent down to the country side, holding Mao’s Theory and red flag. This poster symbolizes the movement of students being sent down to the country side to be re-educated and work and live with the farmers. Wood block print was a popular method for creating Cultural Revolution propaganda materials, as it was a cheap and fast form to create propaganda posters to be used by different revolution committees. The sent down movement took millions of students out of schools and during this re-educational process, many students were separated from their families, some were never seen again by their parents, many believed have died due to hunger or molestation. Size: 29” L by 21.5” W.
