This beautifully carved stone composite meditating Buddha plate depicts the most prominent Buddha authority figure Shaykamuni in Padmasana Asana, the well known lotus position. His left hand is in the Bhumisparsa mudra, which mens touching the earth, to invoke the earth as a witness to the truth of his words. The flames are symbols of eternal lights. The lotus throne Shaykamuni is sitting on is held by a strong heavenly God, or Luo Han, the two standing Buddhist monks serve as devotees and protector of the Buddhist God Shaykamuni. Note just below the two Buddhist monks are two additional Buddhists in the kneeling praying position holding a lotus stem. Just below the Lua Han are carvings of two Kirin, the mystical creature that symbolizes good luck. The side and back of the statue consists of carvings that says the following: "Praying above for the Pu Sa (Pu sa - Buddha God), Saving all of the people below on earth". In the middle of the back plate is the carving of Swastika, the symbol of the law; sign of good fortune. It is one of the 65 signs of buddhahood which can be seen in Buddha's footprint. This amazing marble stone statue consists of elegant and well thought out designs on all four sides. An elegantly executed statue that makes a wonderful Garden or home focal point. A Beautiful piece that can be placed indoors and outdoors. This special piece was a rescued find from a formal Shan Dong monk school's backyard garden. Monk schools were schools that taught Buddhist philosophy, with heavy Chinese Taoism influence. Since Monks do not eat meat, every monk school has its own vegetable garden that produced vegetables for the monks. Refer to S1204 S1204 for its front side view of the carvings.
