Bronze Tsonkapa statue with silver finish
Tsonkapa was born in Tibet in the middle of the fourteenth century, the legend has it that the tree that overshadowed the house where he was born had the imprint of a Buddha on its leaves. Tsonkapa was widely regarded as the leader of the Tibetan Buddhism and was a Northern Buddhist reformer. He founded the Gelugpa sect which became very popular in Tibet and is still the most popular sect in the present day. Gelugpa sect is the sect where the Dali Lama came from. This beautifully hand polished bronze Tsonkapa statue shows him in the very well known Dharmachakra Mudra, the gesture of teaching. His legs are crossed in the lotus meditation pose, he is sitting on a double lotus pedestal. Silver finish gives this Tsonkapa statue a distinctive look. Lovely patina throughout. 6" w x 10" t x 6" d.
