Extremely Rare Dali Lama and Mao Ze Dong poster 1956
Perhaps one of the rarest posters from the Communist China, this poster from 1956 in both Chinese and Tibetan shows Mao Ze Dong and Dali Lama, along with other Tibetan leaders meeting and gathering in Beijing, created from a photo taken during their meeting. China took control of Tibet in 1950s, Dali Lama went into exile since then. A very determined Communist China set up government in Tibet and started its occupation of Tibet in 1950s. This very timely and possibly one of the very few images of Dali Lama taken in China was one of the very last images of Dali Lama. Still considered taboo and illegal to show any images of Dali Lama images outside of the strictly controlled central government media, Dali Lama photos and images possessed by Tibetans will render jail time and hard labor to this date. A very rare footage of the beginning of Chinese occupation of Tibet with both Mao Ze Dong and Dali Lama front and center, this is possibly one of the very only surviving images of this turbulent and shameful era of China. First edition, 130,000 total in print, August 1956, distributed only in Beijing and Tibet. This poster is still considered illegal in China due to its positive image of Dali Lama. 0.03 yuan 30" x 20".
