| From a fine New York City collection comes this 16th. century terra cotta 3/4 figural plaque depicting God the Father. Measuring 10 1/2 inches tall, by 6 3/4 inches wide, the figure is a solid thickly modeled sculpture of the Almighty seated above the heavens looking downward. Although He has now suffered some losses of extremities ,as might be expected of a sculpture of this antiquity, the figure still possesses a bold presence with flowing drapery and beard. The majestic stance commonly denotes this baroque depiction of the Holy Father. The surface retains large traces of the original polychrome while the whole has a beautiful ancient patina. In all a very nice early piece in a moderate price range. | ||
