This is a lovely Royal Staffordshire saluting Kewpie doll with the Vancouver coat of arms on his chest, and the legend, “ One of the Bhoys”, on the base. This particular coat of arms came into being in 1909, and given the salute, the piece was quite likely a wartime souvenir. The doll is white china with painted googly eyes, a pointed top knot, and the unusual saluting arm. The coat of arms crest is handpainted in various colors, and the registration mark on the base dates the piece to 1918.

Condition: Fine. No cracks or chips.

Size: Height- 6 3/8 inches.

This is a quite rare, and unusual, early 19th century six panel handpainted bracelet with a different bird in each panel. I have been purchasing and collecting antique and vintage jewelry for thirty years, and have not come across a bracelet like this before. Each of the handpainted birds is set in a silver surround with a beveled glass front, linked together, and fastened with a box clasp. The image detail is excellent, and each panel is unique. It appears as if the birds are from different countries, as one is a parrot, one a peacock, and another a waxwing. It is impossible to tell what the birds are painted on, but it doesn't appear to be paper. Possibly ivory. This is truly a collectors piece.

Condition: Glass has some minor surface wear under magnification. One bird has been professionally re handpainted. Colors are delicate, but vibrant.

Size: Length- 7 inches. Largest panel -height 1 3/8 inches, width 1 inch.

This lovely antique porcelain ink well is designed to resemble ivory, and is completely covered with Japanese figures and scenes. Each side is in relief with a different scene of samurai, as well as a crane in flight. The scenes are very elaborate, and different from each other, with each fitting beautifully into each panel. The same applies to the top, where the design works in the round. The overall shape is square with tapered corners, and the piece has a metal collar and hinge. Bottom has a hole, but the inkwell insert is missing. Color of the porcelain has made to resemble that of ancient ivory. No markings, and I am not aware of the maker, but I do know that this is a magnificent porcelain item.

Condition: Fine. No cracks or chips. Hinge works perfectly. Insert missing as previously noted.

Size: Height- 4 ½ inches. Each side 2 ½ inches.

This is a very interesting needlework piece done in a tent stitch in wools and silks, and showing a scene of a sailor returning from sea to see his wife and child. He is holding a staff, with his ship in the background, and at his side is a wonderful stumpwork dog in browns and cream colors.
The needlework scene is done on fine mesh and is typical of these earlier pieces, in that the background is left unstitched. A very lovely piece.

Very nice. A few minor age spots and a couple of stitches missing. Colors, and quality, excellent.

Size: 19.5 X 13 inches. Framed: 23 X 16.5 inches

This is truly a masterpiece of Japanese lacquer. Cannot find a signature on the piece, but the workmanship must be distinctive to experts in the field. The design is of a stylized water scene with various branches and blossoms in variegated gold and gray colors. There are five medallions, or mons, on the body, as well as two on the lid.
The interior is a rich red lacquer color, and there was originally a small oval label on the bottom, which said c. 1750, but has come off over time leaving a small darker patch. Ewer stands on three feet. Exquisite workmanship and colors.

Condition: Tiny area of professional restoration on the red lacquer inside lip of the spout. A few minor lacquer loss areas, but overall in very good condition.

This rare Samson & Mordan Owl Retractable Pencil is a very unusual piece. The design is of a detailed silver owl with large opalescent glass eyes. When the top ring is pulled up, a pencil slides out of the body at the bottom. The owl is beautifully engraved and very realistic in appearance. The piece is marked S. Mordan & Co., and has been tested sterling. Could be worn as a pendant, or charm, as the piece is very attractive.

Condition: Fine. Retracting mechanism works well, but the pin to extrude the lead is not working. Tiny rub on one glass eye, but does not detract in any way. Rich color to the silver.

Size: Closed- 1 ¼ inches. Open- 2 ¼ inches.
