A wonderful set of seven handmade cloth dollhouse dolls made on the Champs-Élysées C. 1900. The dolls were original family dolls, sold to me by by a relative of the original owners, a wealthy lumber baron family with 7 children. Every summer the family, the children, and their nannies, would take a trip to France. On one of these trips on the Champs-Élysées, a beggar lady was selling these dolls that she had made with scraps of lovely material obtained from remnants of the elegant couturier shops. Each of the dolls is hand crafted in cloth with clay arms. The faces are cloth as well, with hand painted features, and each dressed differently in costumes of that era. Muslin pantaloons, silk shoes, tiny blown glass bead buttons, tiny woven straw hats, bits of ribbon and bows, and tufts of mohair wigs. The set is a small artistic treasure. Condition: Overall very good. Some wear commensurate with age. Size: Height- 6 3/4 to 7 inches. |
