At one point in late Victorian times Aluminum was considered a rare and experimental material, due to its light weight and non tarnishing properties. As a result, the Victorians experimented with the metal in parts of jewelry and in individual pieces. It is quite difficult to find these pieces today, and so they have become unusual collectors items. This particular piece is a late 19, early 2oth century, aluminum haircomb complete with its original box. The comb is quite beautiful and still as crisp as the day it was produced. Original box is marked “guaranteed not to tarnish” and still has the original cotton lining. Very unusual. Condition: Box has minor wear with corners split. Hairpin is fine.
